On September 22 and 23, the Do Impact project launched its local digital programme in Turin, Italy, created to provide SMEs with the tools, knowledge and resources needed to thrive in today’s evolving market.

The first workshop, which focused on digitalization strategies and data for good, gathered 30 participants coming from 20 different organizations.

After an introduction about the DO impact project, held by the three italian partners – Fondazione Piemonte Innova, Torino Social Impact and Tiresia, we dive deep into a presentation about digitalization strategies for social economy, held by Samuele Saccagno, Innovation Consultant at Fondazione Piemonte Innova. He outlined a five-step roadmap for digital transformation, emphasizing that change is not just about technology but about people, processes, and organisational culture. He highlighted the importance of starting from awareness, planning strategically, and monitoring results over time.

It was then time to present some best practice about digitalization coming from the local ecosystem: thanks to Volontariato Torino ETS, Francesco Cuomo and Maida Cariai we have presented the “Vetrina del Volontariato”, a sharing economy platform created within the I3S project, created to encourage matchup between citizens and organizations, promoting the encounter between wants-to-be volunteers and the associations that need them.

We then move to the interactive part of the afternoon. Thanks to Kevin Pham Nhu of Fondazione Piemonte Innova, the participants had the chance to learn how to use Notion through a hands-on exercise. Kevin guided them step by step in creating and customizing pages, databases, and websites, demonstrating how this intuitive and easy-to-use tool can help third sector and social economy organizations manage daily activities more efficiently, streamline project management, enhance collaboration, and centralize information in one place.

To conclude the session, the participants played with “Desido”, an online game created by Drimlab and presented by Fabrio Chirico, Roberto Vogliolo and Giulia Vogliolo. During this session, the participants had the chance to reflect on the changes that they will want in their organizations, using the idea of “magic spells” to cast on their daily activities to further reflect on what are their own priorities in terms of digitalization; it was also a good chance to reflect on how applied games can support the digital transformation of social impact organizations in a fun and creative way.

The second workshop, held on the 23, focused on “Data for Good: using data as a strategic social asset“. We started with a theoretical overview on the strategic use of data, thanks to Federico Bartolomucci of Tiresia.

Finally, we moved to the interactive part of the day, with a workshop in which the 25 participants, coming from 21 different organizations, had the chance to reflect on and identify the most relevant challenges in their own daily experiences, starting from their own needs, increasing their awareness and knowledge about what “data for goods” really means.

These two days marked the first steps of the DO Impact Local Programme in Italy, creating a shared space for learning, exchange, and experimentation. Over the coming months, the programme will continue in several Italian cities, accompanying social economy organizations on their journey towards digital and data-driven transformation.
