Sebastjan Pikl is a co-founder and Head of Finance at the Institute for Economic Democracy (IED) in Slovenia, where he works on advancing employee ownership, economic democracy and participatory models of corporate governance. His work combines financial management, project development and policy communication, supporting IED’s research, advocacy and practical work with companies transitioning towards employee ownership.

He is also a founder and director of the NOVUM Institute, which promotes and provides knowledge-based support for new and diverse economic and social models, including social economy, coworking, crowdfunding, basic income, human rights and active citizenship. Through his work with NOVUM and other initiatives, he has been actively involved in the development and promotion of the social economy in Slovenia and at the European level, contributing to projects, policy discussions and networks supporting more inclusive and sustainable economic models.

He is also a co-founder of the social enterprise cooperative Dobrote and has been involved in initiatives linking entrepreneurship with social and environmental objectives.

A philosopher and political scientist by training, his main interests include social economy, democratic forms of enterprise, public policy and history of the Mediterranean. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, stage acting and kayaking.
