Strengthening Social Economy Networks: Diesis Joins European Commission Kick-Off Meeting

On 16 June 2026, we participated in the European Commission’s kick-off meeting for EU networks funded under the ESF-2025-AG-MF-SE call for proposals. The event brought together European networks active in the fields of social economy, social enterprise finance and microfinance, alongside representatives of the European Commission, to discuss policy priorities, share planned activities and explore opportunities for stronger collaboration across Europe.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to reflect on the evolving role of social economy networks in supporting inclusive growth, social innovation, territorial resilience and Europe’s green and digital transitions.

Presenting a New Initiative to Strengthen Social Economy Networks

Representing Diesis Network, Marta Bruschi presented Strengthening Social Economy Networks for Impact and Resilience, a new European initiative coordinated by Diesis Network in partnership with Euricse, REVES and Social Economy Europe.

The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity, visibility and resilience of social economy networks through a combination of research, policy advocacy, capacity-building, networking, communication and financial support activities. Designed as a systemic intervention rather than a collection of isolated actions, it seeks to reinforce cooperation between local, regional, national and European actors while creating stronger links between policy development and implementation on the ground.

Showcasing Diesis Network’s Broader Contribution to European Priorities

The presentation showcased our broad portfolio of activities, including initiatives focused on skills, impact measurement, research and innovation, rural development and ecosystem building. Examples include Rural Rise, baSE, ADALTIM or RAISE Alliance, which reflect the network’s commitment to supporting the social economy through knowledge, innovation and collaboration.

We also highlighted its active involvement in broader European initiatives and platforms, including the Rural Pact, the New European Bauhaus, the UN Task Force on Social and Solidarity Economy, and the European Cluster Collaboration Platform, demonstrating the network’s commitment to connecting the social economy with wider European and international agendas.

Aligning with Europe’s Future Priorities

The discussions throughout the day confirmed the growing recognition of the social economy as a strategic actor for Europe’s future. In its presentation, Diesis Network emphasised three strategic pillars that guide its work: Prosperity, Innovation and Inclusion.

Prosperity – supporting sustainable and inclusive growth, quality jobs and resilient local economies; Innovation – fostering social innovation, digital transformation and new governance models; Inclusion – promoting participation, equal opportunities and social cohesion. These priorities closely align with ongoing European discussions around competitiveness, social cohesion, territorial development and the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Key Takeaways from the Meeting

Key common themes emerged from the exchanges between networks and European Commission representatives:

  • All networks are strongly aligned on the future activities within the framework of this grant and are committed to working collaboratively to maximize its impact.
  • Stakeholder engagement is essential for raising awareness of the social economy and ensuring the active involvement of a diverse range of stakeholders

Looking Ahead

Over the coming years, Strengthening Social Economy Networks for Impact and Resilience will support research activities, policy dialogues, training programmes, networking events, communication campaigns and targeted financial support schemes across Europe. T.

As Europe continues to navigate complex social, economic and environmental challenges, Diesis Network remains committed to connecting actors, building capacity and creating the conditions for a stronger, more visible and more impactful social economy.
